This workshop enables members of the helping professions to teach the principles of Positive Psychology to their clients. It also helps them to gain an unique and differentiating dimension to their practice to make their clients and their own business thrive.

Course Content
- Recognising Learned Pessimism and using Learned Optimism to counter pessimistic behaviours – based on Dr MEP Seligman’s early research.
- A practical understanding of the science of Positive Psychology and how you can use it to raise levels of happiness in yourself and your clients – overview of literature, history and current trends.
- Positivity skills for your clients to consciously choose to think positive thoughts (Barbara Frederickson’s “Broaden and Build” Theory).
- Strengths assessment tool to determine your clients' signature strengths and guidance to help your clients discover new career opportunities by working with their newfound strengths. You will be coached on how to use and interpret this tool on yourself in the workshop. We have 'translated' the VIA assessment for use in South Africa and added South African archetypes and role models.
- Positive diagnosis – Robert Biswas-Diener’s model for teaching your clients self-actualising behaviours.
- Attain complete focus or engagement (Flow) and using the motivation continuum to correct temporary set-backs.
- Practicing hope and optimism in the face of adversity by using the ABCDE model of resilience skills developed by Dr Steven Hollon, Dr Arthur Freeman & Dr MEP Seligman.
- Shawn Achor’s Fulcrum effect and his Tetris effect – using Positivity to achieve exceptional business outcomes.
the personal experiences of attendees. Examples and guidelines are provided for reframing pessimistic thoughts and behaviour into positive outcomes in role-play situations to optimize learning retention.

Pre-work
Attendees are required to complete a confidential strengths questionnaire and Happiness Index as pre-work, which will be assessed and handed back at the workshop. Comprehensive discussion of the 24 signature strengths types will take place in group context at the workshop, allowing delegates to explore the different strengths in a simulated coaching environment. Delegates will be given an opportunity to re-take the Happiness Index at the end of the workshop to measure their personal growth and the value of the workshop.
